Stop the trash before you buy it

Every item in a landfill was once on a store shelf. Upstream prevention is the ultimate move — a four-tier mental filter you run on packaging while standing in the aisle. Always reach for the highest tier available.

Package-free / naked refills
Loose produce, solid shampoo bars, bulk-bin dry goods in your own jars. Zero packaging — eliminates 100% of packaging logistics.

2
Infinitely recyclable materials
Glass jars, aluminum cans, steel tins. Unlike plastic, melting glass and metal keeps pure structural integrity — loop-locked in production forever.

3
Transitional certified compostables
Un-waxed cardboard, bagasse trays, certified compostable bioplastics. The trap: reject "biodegradable" with no BPI/TÜV certification — it's often plastic that sheds microplastics.

Landfill bound — avoid completely
Squeeze pouches, chip bags (plastic fused with foil), blister packs, black takeout plastic. Structurally impossible to separate — dead-ends engineered for the landfill.

On your next shop, tier every item in your basket before checkout. Swap at least one Tier-4 product for a Tier-1 or Tier-2 alternative. Snap a photo of the swap and note the packaging you kept out of a landfill.
