The Gratitude Hierarchy — best at the top
1 Refuse
2 Reduce
3 Reuse
4 Repair
5 Recycle
6 Rot (compost)
7 Dispose
Myth 1
"A number in the triangle means it's recyclable in my bin."
Truth: it's a resin code. Only #1 PET and #2 HDPE are widely accepted curbside; #3–7 vary by city. Check your local list.
Myth 2
"When unsure, toss it in recycling just in case — it can't hurt."
Truth: wish-cycling is the most destructive myth. One wrong item can contaminate a whole load. When in doubt, leave it out.
Myth 3
"Recycling is always the best thing I can do."
Truth: recycling sits near the bottom of the hierarchy — it uses energy and water. Refuse, reduce, reuse, and repair beat it every time.
